Master Unit Die (MUD) Quick Change System continues helping moldmakers reduce tooling downtime & costs
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – September 2, 2008 – While some companies are still working out the kinks of Lean manufacturing, DME Company, a leading manufacturer of mold tooling technologies, has understood Lean for half a century.
DME is proud to announce today that a living legend in Lean manufacturing, the MUD Quick-Change System, is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Introduced in 1958, MUD combines tooling flexibility with production efficiency and offers molders a host of advantages.
"This 50-year-old innovation continues to be a valuable tool for moldmakers worldwide by reducing tooling downtime and costs, all aspects even more important in light of today’s more challenging economy," said Mike Kreitner, DME’s Business Manager - Quick Change Mold Systems & Emergent Technologies. "MUD's staying power demonstrates DME’s commitment to creating quality tools for moldmakers, all important parts of being an essential resource to the industry, 50 years ago, and today."
In many applications, MUD provides faster initial mold setup, quicker changeovers and lower material and fabrication costs. Featuring companion insert molds that can be switched easily in less than five minutes by one person, MUD cuts tooling downtime by up to 75 percent, and total tooling costs by up to 66 percent.
MUD also allows unlimited design latitude. Insert molds can be engineered for parts requiring stripper plates, sleeve ejection, single or double cam action, hydraulic, mechanical or pneumatic cylinders – or virtually any feature desired, including three-and four-plate designs.
